They're stressed out and under-sexed, yet overall they are generally happy with life.
Most prefer their doctor to be female, 43% have seen a counselor and 26% have been diagnosed with depression. Who are they? They are the thousands of women from across the country who responded to glow magazine's Healthy Woman Survey.
This Spring, glow conducted its first-ever women's health survey. We wanted to begin a meaningful dialogue with Canadian women, and as Canada's Health Expert, we knew we had a strong base of readers to start that conversation. We were right! Approximately 17,500 women participated, the majority of whom were women from small towns across the country, ages 26 to 46 and married. The data we collected was analyzed by a group of health care professionals including a professor of pharmacy, a clinical counsellor, a gynecologist, a naturopathic doctor and more. The results were intriguing - and have provided us with a new level of insight into Canadian women's health.

To support the launch of the Motorola Hint QA30, the ultra-sleek black and red handset that allows users to enjoy conversations on a full QWERTY slider keypad, Motorola Canada partnered with Angus Reid Strategies to find out how Canadians are using technology to pass along 'hints' when it comes to making or breaking relationships. Sweaty palms and awkward first calls are now apparently a thing of the past.
According to the survey, relationships often blossom thanks to technology. Two in five (42%) of Canadians aged 18-34 would send a flirtatious text to hint they have a crush. Youth are also significantly more inclined to flirt with their crush using Facebook wall posts or gifts (35%) and instant messaging (32%). On the other hand, just over one in ten Canadians aged 55+ would use Facebook (15%) and instant messaging (12%).
Surprisingly, a full 10 per cent of Canadians would give someone the hint that their relationship is over by changing their Facebook status. When it comes to breaking up the old fashioned way, 35 per cent of Canadians would choose to break up with someone over the phone or in person and only 10 per cent would opt not to use technology to get this message across.
There is something in the spring air – its not quite the scent of flower buds, it’s people connecting as relationships flourish and love blooms. “According to research published in the Journal of Reproductive Rhythms, humans are biologically programmed to seek out mates during the springtime. This is the result of warmer temperatures and longer, sunnier days,” says Dr. Laura Zilney, Clinical Sexologist and Author.1 Whether it’s a first date or an evening without the kids, take hold of spring fever and plan an intimate evening for two.

It all started in March 1993 with 3 Americans, a Canadian, 2 Englishmen, a Swede and a Japanese gentleman recruited from ads in the New York Times and International Herald Tribune. With their hearts in their throats and a fistful of rubles, their commercial Aeroflot flight landed in Moscow for a meeting with destiny, a prospective brides social attended by 45 Russian women and organized by a fledgling dating service calling itself Anastasia.
Russian women had long been noted for their ravishing beauty and distinct charm. So at a time when international dating, let alone long distance relationships, were scarce and precarious propositions, Anastasia,
co-owned by Russian and American interests, saw a niche and was giving love in Russia a shot.
As The Iron Curtain came down, a flood of western influence and post-Soviet culture swept past each other in a rush towards assimilation. With it, came the admiring glances and open minds of those eager for something different...a taste of the exotic, a break with the past, a different life anchored by an international romantic concept that mixed tradition with modern love.
